Vidacare’s EZ-IO Intraosseous Vascular Access System Featured on National Geographic Channel’s Inside Combat Rescue
(SAN ANTONIO) – The EZ-IO® Intraosseous Vascular Access System by San Antonio-based Vidacare Corporation was featured in the premiere of the National Geographic Channel’s six-part documentary miniseries Inside Combat Rescue on February 18. Pararescue soldiers on the show used the EZ-IO, which establishes vascular access using the intraosseous (inside the bone) space, to provide life-saving blood and fluids to a combat medic injured by an IED blast after their attempts at IV access failed. The pararescue team inserted the EZ-IO in the patient’s proximal humerus (shoulder) as they transported him to hospital, and although he suffered leg amputation and severe burns, he survived.
Inside Combat Rescue is a documentary miniseries that follows an Air Force pararescue unit in Afghanistan as they enter the combat zone to tend to injured soldiers.
The EZ-IO® Intraosseous Vascular Access System is the first battery-powered device to establish immediate intraosseous vascular access, and is used by 90 percent of US advanced life support ambulances, over half of US hospital emergency departments, and the US Military.
