Jim has over 45 years of experience in healthcare investing and banking. He has served as managing member of seven Tullis healthcare funds since 1987. His particular strengths are in deal generation, corporate strategy, corporate governance, management selection, retention, compensation and recruitment, investment valuation and deal liquidity, and distribution.
Prior to establishing Tullis, Jim spent 14 years in investment research, investment management, and investment banking—all in the healthcare field. He began his career at Putnam Funds, then joined Morgan Stanley, where he received many accolades. He was recognized by Institutional Investor 14 times on their All-Star list, twice named Wall Street’s #1 Drug Analyst, and selected as a leading “home run hitter.” He was featured on the PBS television program Wall Street Week and authored Wall Street’s first defining report on biotechnology.
He currently sits on the boards of Alphatec (Nasdaq: ATEC), Crane Corporation (NYSE: CR), electroCore (Nasdaq: ECOR), Exagen, and SupplyPro, and chairs the board at the Lord Abbett family of mutual funds.
Jim is a graduate of Stanford University and holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard.
