Jim has over 45 years of experience in healthcare investing and banking. He has managed seven of eight Tullis healthcare funds formed since 1987, and now serves as the firm’s chairman. His particular strengths are in deal generation, corporate strategy, corporate governance, management selection, retention, compensation and recruitment, investment valuation and deal liquidity, and distribution.

Prior to establishing Tullis, Jim spent 14 years in investment research, investment management, and investment banking—all in the healthcare field. He began his career at Putnam Funds, then joined Morgan Stanley, where he received many accolades. He was recognized by Institutional Investor 14 times on their All-Star list, twice named Wall Street’s #1 Drug Analyst, and selected as a leading “home run hitter.” He was featured on the PBS television program Wall Street Week and authored Wall Street’s first defining report on biotechnology.

He currently sits on the boards of Alphatec Spine (Nasdaq: ATEC), Exagen (Nasdaq: XGN), and the Edward P. Evans Foundation, and chairs the boards at the Lord Abbett family of mutual funds and Crane Corporation (NYSE: CR).

Jim is a graduate of Stanford University and holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard.
